The Frederick County Department of social services provides case management and financial assistance to support and empower individuals and families. The agency serves as an advocate for vulnerable adults, children and families and works collaboratively with other community agencies to identify, link and provide services and resources to our needy citizens.
The Frederick County Department of social services has approximately 55 employees who work collectively and individually within the community to locate resources and provide services. social services staff members provide in-service training's to local businesses and secure donations from businesses, churches, civic organizations and individuals for Holiday assistance to our agency clients. Staff members participate in monthly agency-designated days where contributions are made to local charities, or items are donated to meet the needs of Frederick County residents. The agency sponsors blood drives for the American Red-Cross and actively participates as a member of the Winchester-Frederick County Multi-Disciplinary Team, the Winchester/Frederick/Clarke Prescription Team, Faith in Action, Domestic Violence Council and Drug Exposed Infant Team. At the State level, the agency actively participates as a member of many State Committees so that the needs of our County population are accurately conveyed when policy is being developed.
The agency is directed by a Board of Representatives: Judith Morris, Chairman, Shawnee District; Kristen Goff, Vice-Chairman, Back Creek District; Linda Smith, Opequon District; Richard Crane, Redbud District; Lorene Carter, Gainesboro District; Phillip Roby, Stonewall District; Gina Forrester, Board of Supervisors Representative and Donald Nesslerodt, Board member at large.
Applications for Food Stamps, Medicaid, State and Local Hospitalization and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) are available at the agency. Completed applications may be dropped of at the agency or mailed.
The Frederick County Department of social services is located in the Frederick County Administration building at 107 N. Kent Street, Third Floor. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The agency is closed on State and Federal holidays.
