Frederick County Sheriff's Office
Dive Team
The Frederick County Dive Team originally started back in 1977 under Sheriff Carroll Mauck. At that time the Dive Team consisted of 4 certified SCUBA members. n March of 1992 once Sheriff Williamson took office the dive team was reformed, having about 4 department members, and 4 civilian members. At current the Dive Team consists of 7 members from within the department
Dive Team qualifications require the candidate to pass a swim test and meet medical requirements. Training consist of one day each month, where as a team, we practice, search patterns, body recovery exercises, ice training, and individual skills.
The purpose of the dive team is collection, documentation and preservation of evidence. We use several different types of search patterns, which consist of a fan, pivot, jackstay, and a grid search. Over the years our team has recovered several drown victims, numerous types of evidence such as vehicles, guns, safes, tools, boats, vehicles and a bulldozer.
Due to the support of our administration our team has, and will, assist any jurisdiction that request our help.
