Shawneeland Sanitary District

image of shawneelandFrederick County's First Sanitary District was established by the Frederick County Court during the summer of 1987. The Code of Virginia provides for the establishment of sanitary districts within jurisdictional boundaries of local governments to collect from property owners therein a special assessment (sanitary district fees) to pay for needed improvements. These fees are billed semi-annually and are due on June 5 and December 5 of each year and payable to the Treasurer of Frederick County. All money collected from the sanitary district fees is used for the benefit of the Shawneeland property owners. Fees are below.

Road and Common Property Maintenance

There is an on-site manager and a minimal maintenance staff that provide upkeep for the roads and common properties (including street sign replacement and snow removal). Advisory Committee

The sanitary district has an advisory committee. Committee members are appointed by the Frederick County Board of Supervisors. The committee advises the board on all issues affecting the sanitary district. Committee meetings are held quarterly at 7 p.m., at the Shawneeland maintenance building. Meetings are open to all Shawneeland property owners.
