Inspections
Effective July 9, 2012, the Frederick County Inspections department will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Starting at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, this office will receive phone calls and walk-ins from customers with code questions or wanting to drop off applications.
PLEASE NOTE: Inspection scheduling and permit issuing will remain from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Frederick County Building Inspections Department exists to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the county's citizenry as it relates to the construction, use and design of buildings.
In 2010-2011 the department performed 12,463 inspections and issued 3,463 permits on new construction, alterations, repair and demolition work.
The office is responsible for enforcing the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, and the following supplements to this which are: 2008 National Electrical Code, 2009 International Building Code, 2009 International Plumbing Code, 2009 International Mechanical Code, 2009 International Fuel Code, 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, 2009 International Residential Code, 2009 Edition USBC Code (March 1, 2011).
Applications for residential and commercial permits may be dropped off from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding scheduled holidays). Permits are issued 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
No construction may begin until a proper building permit has been approved and issued by the building official and zoning administrator and all fees paid. No new structure may be lawfully occupied without a certificate of occupancy from the department.
