Requests shall include the following information:
1.A map showing the location and present name of the road.
2.The preferred road name.
3.A signed statement, from a majority of at least 75% of owners of property accessing the road, stating the desire to have the road name changed.
4.Background information supporting or explaining the reasons for the requested change.
(NOTE: Prior to submitting a road name change request, interested parties should first contact the GIS Division to determine if the desired name is already in use or conflicts with another road name in Frederick County. No road names will be accepted that are spelled the same or are phonetically the same as the first word of an existing road name.)
Requests will be reviewed for completeneness, they will be owner-access researched, support information will be checked, and field verification accomplished. When all requirements have been fully and successfully completed, a recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors. The Board will make a final determination during their next regular meeting. Requesting agents may attend the meeting.
Upon final approval by the Board of Supervisors, the applicant must contact the Public Works Department at (540)665-5643 to arrange for payment, production, and installation of a revised street name sign.
