Frederick County Fire & Rescue Department
The Kindle Project
Encouraging & Inspiring Resiliency Among Burn Survivors

Massage offers hope!
Massage therapy has always been known for its ability to relax and rejuvenate tired and sore muscles. Recently, research has shown that massage therapy can help manage scar tissue. The purpose of the Kindle Project is to introduce basic massage techniques to burn survivors and their families.
Over the course of the Kindle Project:

  • Specific massage and stretch routines will be designed for each burn survivor's condition by a Licensed Massage Therapist
  • Range of motion will be measured and monitored
  • Nutritional needs will be identified in order to minimize the effects of energy loss thereby increasing the healing process
  • Healthy skin products will be presented
  • An opportunity for discussion will ensue in a safe and comfortable environment allowing for increased self-esteem and improved social skills
  • A network of burn survivors will be constructed thus offering support for burn survivors in Frederick County and the surrounding areas
