Since the first academy in 2002, the Training Division's flagship class, Basic Fire Academy, has taught over 590 people in firefighting skills and knowledge. The class consists of several classroom lectures as well as hands-on training using various tools and techniques to ensure that you get the training you need to complete the course and certify as a Commonwealth of Virginia Firefighter I and II.

Class Schedule: The class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and occasionally on Saturday and Sundays at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pre-Requisites: You must be at least 16 years of age (if under 18, we require parental/ guardian forms signed), and you must belong to a fire and/or rescue department. Haz Mat
Upon Completion: The academy consists of 9 different courses that you will receive certification in. These include Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials First Responder: Operations Level, MayDay! Firefighter Down! Awareness and Operations, Vehicle Rescue Awareness and Operations, Propane Emergencies, and the National Incident Management System (N.I.M.S.) MayDay!
